Summer Reading: One for the Money

Pregnancy makes me anti-social. Period. Between the extra pounds, the sleepiness, and especially the soberness, I just want to spend time on the couch all by myself. On a positive note, pregnancy always seems to remind me that I actually do enjoy reading. Last weekend, instead of a food craving, I had a book craving. I ended up ordering 11 books off of Amazon, but those were going to take a couple days to arrive. So I went with the only unread book in my house that I could find: One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.

Now keep in mind that I have terrible taste in anything entertainment. I like easy. I don't like the classics. I don't like anything that takes "intelligence." Most of the books I enjoy reading end up becoming a romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson...and that's just who I am.

This book was a little bit out of my comfort zone. I normally don't do suspense or guns or murder, but I really liked it. Basically, Stephanie Plum loses her job and has no other option but to work for her cousin, Vinny, as a bail bondsman. She has no experience in the field and is assigned to catch Joe Morelli (her old high-school crush turned cop). During the chase, she encounters stalkers, rapists, exploding vehicles, threats, and lots of other scary, gory stuff that I normally try to avoid. It kept me turning the pages and I finished the book in only three days.

What I Liked:
-The book was written in the 90s, and I loved all the cultural references. Life was hard before cellphones, y'all.
-Stephanie Plum is one badass chick, and I love a strong female character #girlpower
-Despite being a little far-fetched, it definitely made me laugh out loud several times. Inappropriate humor is the best.

So apparently the author has several books starring this "Stephanie Plum" character. While I don't see myself doing a binge session anytime soon, I would certainly consider reading more.

(My personal) Overall Rating: 3.1 out of 5 stars
