Pit Stop in Macon

On our way to and from Tallahassee, the Morrison clan was able to make a pit stop in the Macon area to spend some time with our beloved Smith friends.

We made our first pit stop on Thursday night Friday morning at 1 AM which is a great time to check-in to the hotel with a seven month old. The good news is that we got to take our time that morning because we were meeting Jen and Joel at H&H Restaurant in downtown Macon. We tried out this place last year, and there's no way I could go without this place at least once a year. It's absolutely amazing.

Sunday morning, Josh and I woke up feeling absolutely peachy from the night before. And by peachy, I mean that I wanted to be sucked into a black hole and forever forgotten. We sucked it up, though, and somehow made it all the way to Gray, GA to visit the adorable new house that Joel and Jen just built. We got a quick tour and were immediately ushered into the car to head to dinner. Josh and I were initially confused by the early bird dinner...but then Joel and Jen explained that the earlier we got back home, the longer we could enjoy some adult beverages together. Did I mention that the Smith family is pure GENIUS??  I am now forever a believer in the 4:30 dinner.

So, I don't care what anyone else says...I LOVED downtown Macon. I thought it was absolutely adorable. Nevermind that I was told if I took one step out of downtown, I would be shot and killed. Minor details. That place is cuuuuuute. And has some amazing food! We ate at this place called "The Rookery," and I would totally go back.

Can I please emphasize one more time how wonderful Grant and Jake are? Such polite, sweet, funny, and smart kids. Big things to come for these boys.

We headed back to the house to really enjoy the rest of the night. So of course that meant a beer or two during Jace's bath. (Okay this whole event was completely irrelevant...I just thought Jace looked adorable in this picture).

And you know what else was adorable??? The Smith family pets. Y'all...I couldn't get enough of these under-bites and half-tails:

Jace loved hanging out with them too:

12 hours later, Jace still loved hanging out on the back porch with everybody:

Yea...Joel is basically the Jace-whisperer, especially at 5 AM. They were totally meant for each other.

We had such an amazing time, and we are so thankful for the hospitality, beverages, and laughs. We miss the Smith family (human, canine, and feline) so much already. Can we please see y'all again soon??? Happy Labor Day :)
